Shane Flaherty is the author of this blog. I am an economics major passionate about exploring the most pressing political and economic issues of our time. This dives into critical conversations surrounding environmental sustainability, global well-being, and the ethical dimensions of modern capitalism in the United States and around the world.
Through a philosophical lens, I examine the moral implications of economic systems, with a particular focus on U.S. capitalist exceptionalism. Alongside these discussions, this blog also features insights into personal pursuits and broader economic topics that inspire curiosity and meaningful dialogue.
Outside of my academic career I work in the aerospace industry and enjoy a plethora of other hobbies including video games (primarily Oldschool Runescape and some indie games currently), reading (I’m a massive Stephen King fan and am working on a tattoo sleeve with that subject), hiking and spending time outdoors, playing Dungeons & Dragons (I’m a DM!), and spending time with my beloved partner, our two cats, and our dog.
